I have made it a life-long policy never to comment on anything
written about my father, Earl Warren Senior. However, after reading D. J. Herda's
biography, I must say I'm making an exception. The author
writes about things he couldn't possibly have known without sitting
around the family dinner table with us. I don't know how he did it,
but he produced the most remarkable true-to-life story about my
